Licuala stongensis

Licuala stongensis is one of the unique fan palm found only on Gunung Stong. As the peltate leaves suggest, this palm is has great potential to be a candidate for ornamental plant industry. It was the new species recorded for peninsular Malaysia, and been found again during the Scientific Expedition on Forest Biological Diversity of Gunung Stong. This is an endemic species of Gunung Stong which also named after the placed it been found. Gunung Stong contains many plants that are found nowhere else. Subsequently and also based on the findings of others during this expedition, The Kelantan State Government has declared its commitment to gazette an area of 21,950 hectares, corresponding to Gunung Stong Tengah Forest Reserve, as a state park.
