Introduction
The Tropical Rainforest in Peninsular Malaysia is one of the most complex ecosystems in the world. It is also a natural heritage of Almighty God's creation which is very unique and has existed for over millions of years. It is rich with various plants and wildlife, among which include 2,500 species of trees, 200 species of mammals, 600 species of birds, 110 species of snakes, 80 species of lizards and thousands of insects.
Our forest is a complete part of nature and also plays an important role in protection as well as preservation. It also functions as a carbon sink and also helps in the creation of carbon.
Natural forests in this country have uniqueness and beauty of scenery that fulfill the needs of recreation and eco-tourism. The establishment of Eco-Forest Parks within the forest reserve areas is in line with the National Forestry Policy 1978 (Amendment 1992) to maintain a sufficient number of areas as places for recreation, eco-tourism and for community awareness regarding forestry.
Recreating in the Eco-Forest Parks of Peninsular Malaysia
Forest areas that have attraction and natural authenticity for peace of mind and enjoyment to avoid the noise of the surrounding environment can be named Eco-Forest Parks or recreational forests. This is what is emphasized in one of the National Forestry Policies to formulate community forestry programs as well as providing recreation and tourism facilities.
Among the goals of the establishment of Eco-Forest Parks are as follows:-
  • Providing places for facilities to rest within the forest such as picnic spots and look-out points, recreational parks and beautiful natural areas to the public especially to every group of society;
  • Giving birth to awareness to the society about the importance of maintaining the authenticity of the environment especially forests so that they are preserved for the wellbeing of their lives;
  • Increasing individual performance through the release of the mind from the pressure of busy daily work and also the restless surrounding atmosphere especially in big cities;
  • Giving opportunity and encouragement to explore forest areas while enjoying its beauty through the provision of forest trails, facilities for mountain climbing activities, boating as well as other activities in active forms;
  • Acting as an addition to existing research areas, suitable with its preserved authenticity and;
  • Adding areas that can attract more tourists who visit the country which the results will help in the increase of the national economy.

    Forestry Mountain Guides (FMG)

    Introduction to FMG

    Forestry Mountain Guides (FMG) are established with the aim of reducing the risk of accidents and becoming first responders in the event of an accident while conducting climbing activities within Permanent Reserved Forests (PRF). In addition, the purpose of FMG's establishment is to assist the State Forestry Department (SFD) in the management and implementation of climbing activities within the PRF in a more organized manner, as well as to channel information regarding forest offenses referring to the National Forestry Act 1984 or any other related laws.

    A ratio of 1:7 (FMG:Climbers) was introduced to ensure that FMG can control climbers effectively. Starting from the year 2023, any climber can obtain the services of registered FMG to carry out climbing activities within the PRF.

    The FMG pilot program was introduced in 2020 and the enforcement of FMG service implementation was on January 1, 2023, for states that were ready and subject to the decision of their respective State Authorities. The development of the FMG program can help JPSM and SFD formulate strategies in providing quality services to visitors besides being able to enhance the image of JPSM.
