An endemic species found in Perak, Shorea lumutensis (locally known as Balau Putih) is critically endangered according to the Malaysia Plant Red List. Found in coastal hill dipterocarp forest above 100m altitude, Symington (1943) and Ashton (1982) described S. lumutensis as a medium to large-sized tree (some individuals exceeds 50cm diameter at breast height (dbh), with short buttress and bark with abnormal longitudinal fissures. It’s leaves are oblong-elliptic and leathery shaped, and they produces hermaphrodite flowers and sub sessile fruits with three outer and inner wings.
