Bertam sulur

INTRODUCTION

A type of orchid species that has a lesser-known medicinal value. However, the Malay community use it as a treatment for blood circulation in the body.

PLANT DESCRIPTION

Terrestrial herb forming spreading clumps. The flowers are white and can be last only a few days. They are believed to be pollinated by moths. Stem longitudinal. Leaf blades about 22-27 x 4.5-10 cm, petioles about 0.5 cm long. Main veins about 7-9 running parallel to the midrib. Under surface of the leaf blade sparsely clothed in rusty stellate hairs. Flower about 5-10 cm long and up to 60-flowered. Sepals about 20-30 x 2-3 mm. Petals about 25-30 x 3-4 mm.

PLANT HABIT

Occurs in lowland forests up to the 300 m at sea level , where it grows in porosity and high humidity soil.

USES IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE

Chewing a fresh leaf can be emetic to cure fever in children and diarrhea.
