Assalamualaikum Wr. Wbr.
Welcome to the Homepage of the
Forestry Department, Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM). It is hoped that this
Homepage would provide you with the most up-to-date information on the
forestry sector in Peninsular Malaysia.
In line with the department's Vision to be
recognised as an agency of excellence in the sustainable management of
the tropical forest, FDPM is directly responsible to sustainably
manage and develop the nation's forest resources.
The year 2001 - 2005 is the period of
the implementation of the Eighth Malaysia Plan. It is our hope that the
progress achieved at the end of the Plan period for the implementation and
attainment of sustainable forest management would be in consonance with
the nation’s commitment to the International Tropical Timber Organisation
(ITTO) Year 2000 Objective.

Subsequently, it is of most
importance and critical for the Department to strive its hardest to
attain the above-mentioned objective and fulfill the country’s
aspiration for the forest to be the provider that contributes to the
industrial and national socio-economic development in
perpetuity. In addition, continued efforts are being taken to conserve
ecological balance and environmental stability.
In this regard, the Department has taken numerous actions towards the
attainment of the objective including the identification and adoption
of the criteria, indicators and activities, as well as the management
specifications for sustainable forest management to assess its level
of achievement and its effective implementation in Malaysia.
FDPM, will move forward in this era
characterised by the advancement in multimedia technology and the
globalisation of forestry issues. Various initiatives such as the Agenda
21, ITTO Year 2000 Objective, the Convention on Biological Diversity and
the Framework Convention on Climate Change are but a few prominent
testimonies of this globalisation. Consequently, the rapid dissemination
and retrieval of timely and accurate information by the public, especially
through the access to the INTERNET, is deemed necessary and
inevitable. In this connection, the Department has launched its
Homepage in conjunction with its Quality Day Celebration on 6 December
1996. It is my sincere hope that the Homepage would benefit and be
fully utilised by all interested parties.
Happy Surfing.
